We were proud to deliver the complete fire and security installation at The Bank, a modern residential development in Hull city centre, on behalf of DBG Developments. This installation followed the same standard as our work at The Merchant, ensuring consistency across their portfolio of high-spec apartment blocks.
Challenges & Objectives
The objective was to mirror the system design and performance standards set at The Merchant, another DBG project, while tailoring the setup to suit The Bank’s unique layout and fire strategy.
Key challenges included:

Ensuring full compliance with BS 5839 while adhering to a stay-put policy

Integrating systems without disrupting ongoing finishing trades

Coordinating with Vent Engineering, who were responsible for the AOV system

Delivering on tight deadlines while maintaining consistent system performance across both sites
Our goal was to provide reliable life safety systems while ensuring ease of use for residents and building management.
Systems Installed
Fire Alarm System
Grade A, Category L5 Fire Alarm System
A full BS 5839-compliant fire alarm system was installed to a Grade A, Category L5 standard throughout all communal areas. Designed specifically for a stay-put strategy, the system includes advanced detection with no apartment sounders, and is fully addressable for ease of maintenance and fault-finding.
Category L2 Fire Detection in Plant Rooms
Additional fire detection was provided to a Category L2 standard in all plant rooms and high-risk ancillary areas. This ensures early warning in locations with increased fire risk, supporting the building’s fire safety strategy and providing greater protection for critical infrastructure.
24/7 Monitoring with Fire Brigade Response
The fire alarm system is fully monitored around the clock, with automatic fire brigade response in the event of an activation. This provides residents and building management with peace of mind, ensuring rapid attendance in the event of a fire.
Access Control
A secure access control system was installed using fob readers at key entry points, including the main entrance and internal communal doors. The system ensures that only authorised residents and personnel can gain access, improving both safety and day-to-day convenience.
Intercom System
We installed a full video intercom system across the development, allowing residents to see and speak with visitors before granting access. This enhances security while maintaining ease of use for all occupants and visitors.
