Lonsdale Community Centre – Morley

CCTV Upgrade and Commission | Completed Project

Project Overview

Client: Lonsdale Community Centre
Location: Hull
Completion: 2025
Sector: Charitable

Building called Lonsdale Community centre

Project Overview

Cobra Fire & Security were appointed to deliver a full CCTV system upgrade at a local charity centre. The existing analogue system was outdated and no longer provided the level of coverage or image quality required to keep the premises secure.

Our team installed new cabling throughout the site and commissioned a modern network-based CCTV system. The upgrade included a mix of 4MP to 4K IP cameras, providing crystal-clear footage and reliable monitoring both inside and outside of the building.

The new system has greatly improved security for staff, visitors, and service users, offering peace of mind and ensuring the centre remains protected with a future-proof solution.

Challenges & Objectives

This CCTV upgrade project presented several key objectives:

  • Carried out works while the centre remained fully operational.

  • Kept disruption to staff, volunteers, and service users to a minimum.

  • Overcame challenges posed by the age of the building.

  • Installed new cabling while keeping runs hidden and discreet.

  • Carefully phased works to avoid interference with daily activities.

Systems Installed

Network Video Recorder (NVR)

We installed a Hikvision 16-channel NVR with 18TB of storage to provide the centre with reliable, long-term recording capacity. The large storage ensures high-quality footage can be retained for extended periods and allows room for future system expansion without major upgrades.

External CCTV Coverage

The building’s perimeter is now protected with six 8MP Hikvision ColorVu fixed turret cameras. These cameras deliver vivid, full-colour images 24/7, even in low-light conditions. Their robust, weather-resistant design ensures dependable coverage of all external areas, enhancing deterrence and identification.

Internal CCTV Coverage

For internal monitoring, we fitted ten 4MP fixed-lens turret cameras with built-in microphones. These cameras provide excellent image quality and audio capture, offering valuable context when reviewing footage. This helps safeguard staff, volunteers, and visitors inside the building.

Monitoring & Control Equipment

A 27-inch 4K monitor was installed to give staff crystal-clear live viewing and playback, making it easy to monitor activity on-site. In addition, a new data cabinet was fitted to house and organise all equipment neatly, ensuring easier maintenance and room for future upgrades.

Results & Benefits

The installation was delivered on time and to the high standards expected by JP Wild. The building now benefits from:

  • Improved Monitoring – The new 27-inch 4K monitor makes live viewing and playback sharper and easier for staff to use.

  • Professional Infrastructure – A dedicated data cabinet keeps all equipment organised, secure, and ready for future maintenance or expansion.

  • 24/7 Full-Colour Coverage – Hikvision ColorVu cameras provide clear, full-colour images even in low light, improving identification and deterrence.

  • Enhanced Internal Security – 4MP cameras with built-in microphones capture both video and audio, adding valuable context to recorded footage.

About the Client

Lonsdale Community Centre is a community-led, not-for-profit organisation based in Newington, West Hull. Housed in a former Sunday school, the centre is owned and run by trustees from the local area, supported by long-standing volunteers, some of whom have been involved for over 25 years.

Its mission is to provide quality, accessible services and activities for local residents, especially those living in Newington ward—a neighbourhood facing economic and health challenges. The centre offers a wide range of programmes including training courses, a café, a community shop, and various social activity groups, all designed to promote well-being and positive social engagement.

As a focal point for the local community, Lonsdale Community Centre doesn’t require booking for most of its regular activities — people are welcome to turn up and join in. Their area of benefit is roughly a one-mile radius, with a special focus on Newington ward, which is recognised as one of Hull’s more deprived areas.
